Students from John Smeaton Academy who fought their way to the top of the attendance table have enjoyed a rewards afternoon that included a visit from world champion boxer Josh Warrington.
More than 400 students in years 7 to 10 successfully achieved at least 96 per cent attendance in the previous half-term. They were rewarded with the chance to meet former academy and IBF Featherweight World Champion student Josh, who spoke to them about the value in getting a strong education before posing for photos and signing school planners. Josh said: “It’s great to come back to my old school and talk to the students about what they can achieve, because if you work hard enough you can achieve anything.”
