LEEDS commercial law firm Lupton Fawcett has promoted Duncan Milwain, to the position of director, less than five years after he joined the firm as an assistant solicitor.

Managing director, Kevin Emsley, said: "To progress so rapidly is testament to the hard work and sustained commitment Duncan has shown for the benefit of the firm."

Brewery boost for furniture firm

HILL Cross Furniture, of Nort
h Cowton, North Yorkshire, which supplies furniture to pubs, restaurants and clubs across the UK, has won three contracts in Leeds worth nearly £75,000.

The company, which employsg 22 people, has supplied Leeds Brewery, the city's only independent brewer, with £40,000 of indoor and outdoor furniture as well as supplying the leather for fixed seating. The furniture is now in the brewery's Midnight Bell pub, on Water Lane, as well as its new venture, the Brewery Tap, on New Station Street.

Hill Cross also supplied Leeds Brewery's Pin Café Bar, in Dock Street, with sofas and stools.

Science team's discovery

SCIENTISTS at York University have developed new technology which could dramatically cut scanning times for health tests and increase the accuracy of the results.

They have discovered a way of making Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners, extensively used in hospitals, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) machines employed in chemistry research, far more sensitive .

The university has signed an agreement with international technology company Bruker BioSpin to develop its patented technology further.

Professor Simon Duckett, said: "This has very positive implications for faster diagnosis for patients in the future."
