An unexpected bonus was that the support act couldn't make it so Simon Amstell – acerbic presenter of Never Mind the Buzzcocks – stepped in and immediately had us in hysterics with his dark humour.

"Smithy" and "Gavla" were hilarious – although I'm still slightly traumatised from seeing Corden's bare bottom when he stripped off on stage.

Two sketches you can look forward to seeing on screen feature a camp war correspondent and a hysterical magic act, featuring mimed animal impressions and ballet moves to the strains of Enya's Orinoco Flow.
