Gold is a colour that looks great in all seasons. In summer it reflects the rich glow from the sun and in winter it warms us up by reflecting all the gorgeous light.

Gold works best in cluttered rooms. Think over the top ornate French detailing and luxurious designs. To get this look keep the walls simple in a golden cream shade and reflect this with cream carpets on the floor.

Now add in as much gold as you can. Opt for furniture with a gilt finish and accessories to match for an opulent, over the top and always glorious room.

Standing on one leg, grab your toes and tilt the hips forwards to gain a stretch down the front of the thigh. Keep the knees together and hold for one minute. Great after a long run.

Eat it

Fennel is in season this month and worth using in lots of different dishes. Florence fennel looks like a bulbous celery plant and has a sweet aniseed flavour, which is stronger when eaten raw and less pronounced when cooked.

Choose blemish-free bulbs that are pale green and firm. For those who like raw fennel, try mixing it in a green salad or shredding it with citrus fruit. Fennel is excellent for making soup or it can be poached, steamed or briefly boiled. Braising it slowly makes it sweet and tender.

That in mind, it has an understandably old-fashioned sound and is the sort of album you'll want to cherish before the masses get hold of it.

The Wonder and the Horror of the Human Head is a display at Leeds City Art Gallery of a group of sculptures and prints from the 1950s and early 1960s which use the human head as a mirror for contemporary concerns.

During this period, Britain was haunted by the memory of the Second World War and, at the same time, threatened by the spectre of the Cold War and an escalating nuclear arms race.

The powerful imagery of these conflicts permeates the display which includes works by Henry Moore.
