The U's ramshackle home was never to the liking of a host of big guns – most notably Manchester United, memorably turned over in a League Cup upset in Oxfordshire in the mid-80s – and the Manor was a far from delightful venue for the Whites in 1983.
A big away following of 2,000 braved a bitterly cold night to make the long trip to the famed university city, only to witness a schoolboy performance in return.
Positives, apart from the tremendous support, were thin on the ground, with United writer Don Warters even electing not to award his customary man-of-the-match vote – such was the ineptitude of the visitors' display!
A sign of things to come arrived with just three minutes on the clock when George Lawrence fired across the face of goal and soon after Kevin Brock hammered in a 20-yarder past the startled David Harvey.
The Leeds keeper then denied Mick Vinter before the Welsh striker set up Steve Biggins for a simple second for the hosts on 26 minutes.
A wretched half reached its nadir when Harvey spilled a Brock free-kick and Vinter nipped in to score as the United defence dallied.
The visitors improved slightly on the restart and Kenny Burns at least salvaged a modicum of pride when he headed home a free-kick in the 65th minute.
But it proved to be Oxford's night and they rubbed salt into the wounds for Eddie Gray and his troops with a fourth goal in the dying moments.
Lawrence headed in from close range after Harvey had blocked an effort from Biggins.
LEEDS UNITED: Harvey, McGoldrick (Wright), F Gray, Watson, Burns, Dickinson, G Thomas, McCluskey, Ritchie, Donnelly, Barnes.
