THE Civic Trust commented last week on the Leeds 2020 prospectus produced following the City Centre Vision Conference in January.
The prospectus contains enthusiastic ideas and a clear vision for future developments in Leeds. The Civic Trust stated that the document was uninspiring and that it was surprised that the prospectus was produced without consulting others. The documen
t simply reflects the aspirations raised at the conference. Complete details of projects cannot be established until full consultation is carried out. This will be done by working in partnership with the private, public and voluntary sectors, including groups like the trust, who are an important partner in Leeds. I would be only too happy to discuss the prospectus in more detail with Dr Grady if he wishes to do so.
Both the council and the Leeds Initiative are committed to open debate about the future of Leeds and to working in partnership to achieve shared objectives for the city. We have welcomed the trust's input into improving the legibility of the city centre and its public realm in recent months and I look forward to consulting with them, and other partners, in the future
This initial document, which is at a strategic level, reflects the views of a wide range of opinions as expressed during and after the City Centre Vision Conference. Leeds Civic Trust is only one of many groups and individuals whose voices should be heard. I am afraid Dr Grady cannot expect our consultation only to reflect his and the trust's views.
Coun Barry Anderson, Chair of City Centre Leeds
