On sunday October 5, it being a nice sunny morning, my wife and I decided to have a walk round Roundhay Lake. Along the way we decided to stop at the lake cafe for a coffee. Very nice indeed.

Sitting there on the cafe balcony looking out onto the lake it strikes you nothing really happens on this vast expanse of water. Why is this?

Why isn't there a sailing club like we have over on the west side of the city at yeadon tarn. Why do people have to travel to other side of the city if they want to learn how to sail when we have this wonderful lake not being used to its full potential? With the london olympics due in four years time there may be some government money to tap into to build a yachting school on roundhay lake.

It would be entertainment for couples and families who could stroll round the lake on a nice day watching the yachts racing each other or just messing around.

Many a time i have seen hundreds of people sitting on the grass bankings on a sunny day looking out over the lake and thought to myself what are they looking at? Basically nothing.

Leeds city councillors, don't you think it's time we brought some soul and life back into the lake and gave it that finishing touch?
