A MAN under the influence of drugs believed he was being chased by an armed gang before slipping and falling to his death from the roof of a house in Leeds, an inquest at Wakefield heard.

Nicolai Brown, of Wyther Park Close, Armley, was under the influence of amphetamine and cocaine when he fell from the roof of a house on Back Moorfield Terrace, Armley on October 5 2015.

Police initially treated 27-year-old Mr Brown’s death as suspicious and a man was arrested on suspicion of murder before being released without charge.

A forensic post mortem revealed Mr Brown died from a head injury consistent with a fall from height. Toxicology tests revealed Mr Brown had amphetamine and cocaine in his system.

Mr Brown called police at 8pm on October 5 to say he was being chased by four men with a gun, and he was hiding near KFC on Stanningley Road. When police arrived they found no sign of him. At 9.20pm, officers were called to reports of a man banging on a door at a house on Moorfield Avenue, saying he had been attacked. An officer who attended the scene heard a loud bang from nearby Back Moorfield Terrace and found Mr Brown fatally injured. Senior Coroner David Hinchliff recorded a verdict of accidental death after hearing a police investigation found no evidence that Mr Brown had been threatened. Mr Hinchliff said: “He has gone into some sort of paranoid state where he believed that he was being pursued.”
