Carol Vorderman has told how a stressful few months has led to her putting on nearly a stone in weight.
Vorderman, whose announcement that she was quitting Countdown was followed by a furore, told Reveal magazine: "I've had a re-tox year.

"I've put on about 10lb due to stress. When I get stressed, I don't sleep well, and then I get tired.

"And when I get tired I find myself shovelling food in my mouth just to keep myself awake."

She vowed: "I'm determined to make those extra pounds disappear by Christmas.

"I need to get a lot fitter and I simply haven't had time to do that."

She said of her future career: "The whole Countdown thing upset me so much that I've got to get to the point where I'm thinking straight before I make any sort of decisions about what to do next."
