United were facing a 2-0 deficit after 45 minutes of an engrossing friendly at Carlisle Grounds yesterday, but three second half goals – including one from trialist Marcus Haber – ensured that Leeds followed up Wednesday night's 2-0 win over Galway United with another success.

Haber was named in Gary McAllister's starting line-up as United's manager made wholesale changes to the team fielded in Galway, and the Canadian striker enhanced his chances of completing a transfer from FC Groningen to Elland Road with a 70-minute run-out and his first goal for the club.

His strike on 68 minutes pulled Leeds level after Rui Marques had reduced the visitors' deficit early in the second half, and a late strike from Jonathan Howson was enough to secure United's 3-2 success.

Yet the Elland Road side had looked to be heading for their first pre-season defeat after their eircom Premier Division hosts took control of the friendly with two goals inside the opening 32 minutes.

Leeds started brightly, with Bradley Johnson lifting a header over the crossbar, but they fell behind when Daryl Robson beat David Lucas with a vicious finish from the edge of the box.

United attempted to repair the damage immediately and Peter Sweeney hit the post with a curling effort while David Prutton's shot brought a finger-tip save from Bray goalkeeper Gabriel Sava, but Wanderers struck against the run of play to increase their lead in the 32nd minute.

Leeds conceded possession in the centre of the pitch and Alan Cawley – a former trainee at Elland Road – played in Ger Rowe who made no mistake with an easy finish.

United's response came early in the second half, however, as Marques ran in to head home a corner from Johnson 10 minutes after the break.

The centre-back's goal gave Leeds much-needed impetus, and Haber produced an equaliser with virtually his last contribution when Prutton's pass set him up with a close-range tap-in.

A stalemate looked to be on the cards but after Lucas averted one moment of danger with an alert reaction, Howson ran in to finish off a good move involving Enoch Showunmi and complete an impressive turnaround with seven minutes to go.
