Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield was due to undergo a scan on his injured knee today, but relieved boss Brian McClennan is confident he will not be out of action long-term.
Sinfield was hurt late in the 23-22 defeat at Wigan Warriors three days ago and initial fears were that he could be facing a lengthy lay-off.
But McClennan said Sinfield was assessed by Rhinos' medical staff the day after the game and the outlook
now is more positive.
"He came in on Saturday, he pulled up reasonably well and we were pretty happy with him," said McClennan.
"He's going to get a scan today and we'll know a lot more after that.
"It is nothing major. It is a minor knee injury – a medial strain or cartilage – but we will know more when we get the MRI."
McClennan added: "We get concerned when any of our players get injured. It is not the end of the world, he is a consummate professional and will do everything right.
"Our medical staff are excellent and Kevin is going to get all the best advice and care. I don't think he's going to be out for too long."
Meanwhile, centre Clinton Toopi could make his comeback in Friday's home clash with Huddersfield Giants after recovering from shoulder and knee operations.
Toopi has not played since suffering a dislocated shoulder in the Carnegie World Club Challenge win over Melbourne Storm on February 29.
McClennan said: "He has got a chance. What we will do is monitor his progress throughout the week.
"If we feel he is able to get through a game then he will play on Friday."
Carl Ablett could return after an ankle injury while McClennan said hamstring victim Ian Kirke is "making progress" but is still another couple of weeks away.
Rhinos' medics are checking on Danny Williams, who was due to play against Wigan, but who was a late withdrawal after his back tightened on the coach journey to the game.
Lee Smith came in amongst the substitutes after being rushed by car to Wigan following afternoon training with the second string.
Rhinos are off the top of engage Super League for the first time this season on points difference following Friday's defeat and St Helens' big 54-0 win at Harlequins the following afternoon.
Rhinos reserves were beaten 39-18 at Hull, despite tries by Tom Sheldrake, Danny Lawton and Kashley Watkins, plus three Simon Brown goals.
