Possible expulsion from the Twenty20 Cup could potentially cost Yorkshire £2.5m.
Yorkshire face an ECB disciplinary hearing on Thursday after yesterday's quarter-final at Durham was called off at the last minute.
The county have been accused of fielding an ineligible player, 17-year-old spinner Azeem Rafiq, in last month's winner-takes-all group tie at Nottinghamshire.
The ECB could order Yorkshire to replay that game or kick them out of the competition.
This year's Twenty20 winners will go through to the new champions' league and Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan said: "That's £2.5m for the winner.
"It will be a major blow to the club if we get turfed out. What has happened is simply an administrative oversight.
"Nothing has been done intentionally, we haven't played him knowing he wasn't a qualified player.
"We simply called up a young lad at very short notice. He only bowled two overs for 18. He didn't make a huge contribution to the game and he didn't bat, but the fact he was on the field brought into question that Yorkshire were in breach of the regulations.
"We will try and get a result at the disciplinary hearing that allows us to play in the competition. "
Regan added: "I feel sorry for everyone who went up to Durham and it is a shame for the player. It has tarnished a memorable day, when he made his debut."
