MEET Edwardo Diaz Gonzales who has flown 4,500 miles from Havana to Leeds to handcraft Cuban cigars.
The 34-year-old uses his metal chaveta (cutter) to splice the tobacco leaves before rolling them on his wooden bench before sealing the cigar head with vegetable gum.
Edwardo is a third generation Torcedor who works for the El Laguito company creating the world famous Cohiba cigars.
But this week he is at Barbers Cigar Shop in Otley.
He said: "I've worked in the factory for 12 years like my parents and my grandparents. Yes, I smoke cigars myself, depending on the moment. My favourite is a Siglo VI Robusto."
James Barber, 49, along with wife Angela, 44, is the fourth generation to run Barbers founded in 1867.
He said: "The popular myth is that Cuba cigars are rolled on the thighs of virgins. I've been to Cuba and the women hold the rolling buffets between their legs with the tobacco leaves draped on their thighs, so you can see where it comes from."
Cigar-loving celebrity Sir Jimmy Savile was also on hand.
He joked: "I really enjoy mine rolled on the thighs of a lady, but if I rolled one on Edwardo's thigh I'd get six months."
On Friday the shop in Westgate will hold an all day rolling session from 9am to 8.30pm.
