A WAKEFIELD schoolboy made his West End debut alongside Doctor Who and Broadchurch star Arthur Darvill in sold out show marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

Ten-year-old Sandal Castle Primary School pupil Owen Registe joined children from across the UK and professional actors at Shakespeare School’s Festival Gala at London’s Piccadilly Theatre on Monday night.

Owen, who went to London for the first time for the show, performed alongside Darvill, who played Rev Coates in Broadchurch, in a specially adapted duologue, passing the crown from Shakespeare’s Richard II to Henry V.

The youngster said: “I was more excited than nervous.

“We got to see how famous actors like Arthur really do it.”

Impressed Darvill said Owen was “a little pro already”.

Children across Yorkshire still have the chance to participate this year in a show like Owen, if schools sign up at www.ssf.uk.com before the end of May.
