HULL CITY manager Phil Brown plans to further reinforce his squad before the end of the transfer window – with the signing of Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell top of the agenda.
The Tigers made it a trio of deals on Thursday as Marlon King and club-record £2.5m defender Anthony Gardner signed up, with Brown also expected to also extend his stay at the KC Stadium after agreeing terms.
Brown remains in the market to bolster
his side before the transfer window closes, and is hopeful he may still secure Campbell. The Huddersfield-born forward enjoyed an excellent season-long loan with City last term, hitting 15 goals in their promotion campaign.
Brown said: "I don't think we are done yet – we have still got one or two players possibly to come in.
"Sir Alex Ferguson knows my intentions and knows where we stand as far as Fraizer is concerned and, hopefully, it is in the same ball park as him."
United boss Ferguson is reportedly willing to allow Campbell to leave on loan for a third successive campaign if he lands Bulgarian international striker Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur.
Boss Brown was expected to have formally signed a new three-year deal ahead of City's Premiership bow against Fulham yesterday – that will reportedly treble his existing salary at the KC Stadium.
He said: "It was done over two or three nice evenings with a glass of wine and the negotiations were as simple as that.
"The chairman is a friend and he's a colleague. That was always important to me."
Brown still has two years left on the contract he only signed last summer but chairman Paul Duffen has rewarded promotion with a deal until 2011, worth around £2.2m.
On his recruitment of Wigan striker King on loan – the marksman has been refused permission to play in City's trip to the JJB later this month under Premiership rules – Brown said: "Marlon has signed on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal. There was a loan fee involved and that will come off the final figure.
"Marlon took part in training for the first time (on Thursday) and the missing link up front was there. He fills a gap because we weren't as creative as I wanted us to be in pre-season and we weren't scoring goals.
"He brings something different – he runs the channels, he gets behind the defence and he is strong in his hold-up play. And he brought all those assets to training.
"I want players with points to prove. It is the same with Anthony. Like Marlon, he has a point to prove and, hopefully, we can get his career back on track."
