Give les cocker a medal iam a Leeds United fan soi know what a fantastic job he did for both England and Leeds United

Have followed LUFC since '69 – Les was instrumental in making them the force they were having already aided Sir Alf in coaching the lads to their terrific achievement in '66. The dynamo of a man who is a giant in our hearts!

****

Unsung hero and major contributor to LUFCs rise to glory.A big member of our family and should be honoured not for the comitment he showed to LU but to his country.A small man but a big heart totally comitted to the game.PLEASE GIVE LES A MEDAL.

I pledge my support to the campaign for Les Cocker to get a world cup winners medal.

It is only fair as he was part of the "Team"

Neil Pettman

****

It is disgusting that a medal wasn't given to all involved in the successful 1966 team. I would like to add my name to the petition to give Les Cocker a posthumous medal.

Barbara Crowther

****

I was a youngster growing up in the Don Revie era, of which Les Cocker was such an important part. Football is a team game, and should be recognised as such; I'm pleased to see the acknowledgements of his role from former leading players in the great Leeds United team of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to witness the marvellous era that The Boss and all of his team brought us never forget – may God bless Les and his family – gone but never forgotten.

I fully endorse your campaign to give Les a medal, and wish you every success.

Regards

John Gibbons, Boston Spa

Les was one of footballs old fashioned gents who would instill tougnness, a will to win but most of all honesty and fairness, not much in abundance in todays modern game. Les made a tremendous contribution to the World Cup winning squad and should recieve the medal he certainly deserves.

Dear Sir's
It is with sadness that it has taken nearly 42 years to find out that the three men who instigated our greatest victory ever in International Football, Sir Alf Ramsey, Les Cocker, and Harold Shepherdson, probably never to be repeated in my life time, were not given a World Cup medal, this is a disgrace. The country was so proud in 1966 and I honestly thought the manager and other members of his management team would have been rewarded for all their hard work leading our country to glory. If for what we achieved Sir Alf was rewarded with a Knighthood, why is it that the FA cannot honour these great men by giving a medal to the surviving members of their family, they thoroughly deserve it.

Yours Sincerely Mr Leonard Bolt

He definitely deserves the recognition, they all do.

Graham Davies, Barnsley

I support the campaign to give a posthumous medal to Les Cocker.

Please Give Les Cocker the medal he deserves.

He is a credit to his family.

I am not a Leeds Supporter but do offer my support for this campaign. There should not even be any questions about it! The lads won the World Cup because of the combined merits of the entire squad: the players, the manager, the physios, et al. Give Les Cocker a medal and truly honour those involved from that winning side.

Raciel D. -- Los Angeles, California

****

To whom it may concern,
I for one would like to voice my support for the effort into fashioning winners metals for the England manager and staff of the legendary winners of World Cup 66. For the FA to not let this happen is an embarrassment. This sort of action is a disgrace to all who sacrificed for the glory of their nation. The FA should be ashamed of themselves. A little gesture of this kind would provide real justice to men who deserve the same credit that any in a similar position would receive.

Signed,

This vote is from Brazil. GIVE A MEDAL TO LES!!

I had the pleasure of watching Les Cocker play for Accrington Stanley in the 50's, in fact, he was my favorite player at the time, and I followed his career closely when his footballing days ended. I recall an occasion in 1969 when England played Brazil at the Maracana stadium I 'phoned the squad's hotel and managed to get through to Les. After chatting for a while about Stanley (then, sadly, demised) I told Les, be careful with Jairzinho, he's in great form and will cause more problems than Pele. Sadly my advice was to no avail, Brazil won a hard-fought game 2 – 1, and both Brazil's goals were created by Jairzino, from the right wing!

I'm a lifelong Leeds fan & Scotland supporter.

Les Cocker deserves a World Cup medal for his service to England.

It is a travesty that Alf Ramsey & Les Cocker did not receive cup winners medals.

****

To whom it may concern,

I remember Les Cocker when he was playing for Accrington Stanley in the late 50's. It was great seeing him as he "dashed" along in that unusual stride of his, with his head moving in rhythm with his body towards the goal of the opponents. This of course for the whole 90 minutes!

His remarkable fitness came as a blessing when ultimately he became a trainer with Leeds and England. Without him (and of course others), the England team would have found it difficult to say the least, to keep on to their lead against an also very fit team of Germany.

It is therefore only right that the people involved in the background should also receive winner's medals.

Sincerely yours

Philip Kenyon

****

The earth could turn to dust before FIFA and the FA get this right.
Why not ring Bobby Charlton, borrow his medal for a cast, find the best damn metalsmith in Leeds and have him forge Mr. Cocker and the other deserving coaches medals? While you're at it, might I suggest forging a couple out of cow manure and dispatching them same day delivery to Brian Barwick and Sepp Blatter?

hi everybody

les cocker was a good friend of accrington stanley goalkeeper john jack hacking son of ex england keeper john hacking and former manager of the reds.i worked with jack in the mid 60s.we were really proud that les cocker an ex stanley player was involved with the england set up at the time of the world cup win in 1966.i sincerely hope that your campaign is successful and add my vote for les and all the backroom staff to be awarded a medal for their part in the win.

yours sincerely michael de-maine, on stanley on.

Yes I remember clearly getting Les Cocker's autograph in the 50s at Stanley and also remember him being a player, and player/trainer. He so thorough deserves having a medal for the 1966 England's World Cup efforts.
Thank you,

Once it was decided to award winners medals to coaching staff the powers that be should have back dated all winners medals to successful coaching staff. Why they were not awarded from the start is very peculiar.

GIVE LES COCKER A MEDAL !!!

Louise Jansen

****

For those of us who remember the 1966 World Cup, and indeed the rise of United in the 60's all will remember what Les Cocker did for Leeds, and England. For the FA & FIFA to not award a medal is a bit like a spoilt brat in the playground refusing to share their snacks with their best friend.

Award Les (Sir Alf & Harold Shepherdson) a winners medal!

Cheers

Graham, (TerryCooper'sWhiteBoots on WACCOE)

****

For once I wish the football authorities would do the right thing. Award medals to all the coaching staff who haven't been awarded World Cup Winners Medals, if this happened in modern finals there would be a national outcry. Respect the memory and achievements of Les Cocker and give his family recognition of what Les achieved all those years ago.

Peter Smithson

****

Forever representing his country and being part of his country's finest hour , it is a complete travesty that Les Cocker has not yet received a World Cup Winners medal from 1966.

Les , was and still is, part and parcel of this countries football folklore - a magnificent Coach for a magnificent Team , namely in Leeds United. His hard work and knowledge was passed on to the England Team with the result of that wonderful win in 1966.

Lets continue to remember that Team of people , not just the players , but the Manager and backroom staff who provide us with the single and most valuable win in football for the English people.

Les , we miss you and we will remember you - lets do the right thing and posthumously honour this great man.

Andrew Jessop, Tingley, Leeds.

****

As a Leeds United supporter during and after the Revie days, I feel that Les Cocker deserves a medal for his sterling work with Alf Ramsey and the England team. Who else would have kept the lads running in extra time during that glorious day at Wembley in 1966?

GIVE LES COCKER HIS MEDAL !!!!!!

Les cocker deserves his WC winners medal and if enough of us get together and petition this then we can get this rectified.

Pickles the blooming dog got more credit than the manager and his assistants! So, 'well done' EP and all supporters of the campaign to get messrs Ramsey, Cocker (the Leeds icon) and Shepherdson due credit for helping England win the World Cup. Just another BIZARRE oversight by the football authorities - imagine the manager and coaches of a team NOT having any influence on a team's performances. No you can't so God knows why there were no medals for them.

Robert Endeacott

****

I am an Accrington Stanley supporter who watched England win the World Cup in 1966; I was 15 years old at the time and extremely proud that Les Cocker was at the pinnacle of his profession. Anyone who can make the leap from Accrington Stanley to World Cup Winner deserves a medal! Please give him one.

Peter Haken

Definitely give Les and the rest of the staff a medal. There shouldn't even be a debate but knowing the FA and the sanctimonious old miseries running it this will run and run.

Carole Parkhouse

****

What Les Cocker did for England in the 1966 world cup should be rewarded with a medal without question. I am sure everyone would agree that all backroom staff from all the world cup winning teams should be granted a medal at the very least. These former dedicated sporting professionals give their all, without looking for reward.

Les Cocker was a true professional.

This campaign isnt just about Les Cocker, its also about Sir Alf Ramsey and Harold Shepherdson as they didnt receive Medals either. Interesting that no comments on the Campaign have been forthcoming from The FA have they stated their support for this campaign, are they assisting? (think we all know the answer!)

Give Les a medal!!! Its scandalous basically Les got his coaching badge paid by Accrington Stanley in the 50's, he then went on to Leeds & assist coaching the 1966 England Squad, whom at that time the only people that got medals were the 11 on the pitch (not like nowadays], he & many others from the staff/team/management from that victorious footy moment should also receive medals in recognition for their efforts as well as the 11 who got the originals back in 1966 - they were the only successful England management & team to make England victorious so they should be victorious in receiving their long awaited medal as a special thankyou as they should of got then. We fully support Les Cockers family tremendously in that they receive that honour - come on FIFA/FA !!!

the chances are that without les' contribution then england may not have won the world cup back in 1966. the greatest footballing achievement this country has mustered probably wouldn't have happened. and les didn't get a medal because of the mealy mouthed attitude of some bureaucrats? it defies belief and needs rectifying as soon as possible.

I am writing to give my support to your "give Les a medal campaign".

Les Cocker's part in the 1966 World Cup was just as important as the 11 men who played in the final itself
Les, Alf Ramsey and Harold Shepherdson's backroom contribution over a period of several weeks deserves recognition.

These days medals are dished out left right and centre even to a lacky carrying the water bottles.

I fully support the Give Les a medal campaign.
